Day 1: UK to Kuching
Fly from London to Kuching, via Kuala Lumpur.
Day 2: Kuching
On your arrival, you will be met and transferred to the lovely Ranee Boutique hotel where you’ll be staying for 2 nights. Located in the heart of Kuching’s picturesque Old Town, this romantic boutique hotel has been stylishly rebuilt from two traditional 19th century shophouses with individually styled suites to reflect Sarawak’s rich colonial heritage. You are perfectly located to head out and explore Kuching this afternoon.
Day 3: Kuching
Start with a visit to the Semenggoh Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre for a chance to see these rare and majestic creatures in their natural habitat. After lunch you will enjoy a walking tour of Kuching and learn all about the city’s rich history. End the day with a sunset cruise along the Sarawak River for an alternative view of the city’s waterfront.
Day 4: Kuching to Bako
Today you will be transferred to Bako National Park for a 1 night stay in Bako Lodge. Bako NP offers pristine rainforest, abundant wildlife, jungle streams, waterfalls, diverse plant life, secluded beaches, and an extensive network of trekking trails. Look out for proboscis monkeys, silvered langurs (leaf monkeys), long tailed macaque monkeys, wild boar, flying squirrels and monitor lizards. Or change this to a day trip to Bako and ask us about other day tour options from Kuching.
Day 5: Bako to Kuching
This morning start with a cruise of the Santubong River and explore the Kuching Wetlands. From here you will visit Satang Island, marine area that has a huge concentration of nesting green and hawksbill turtles, both endangered species. Return to Kuching to spend 1 night in the Ranee Boutique Hotel.
Day 6: Kuching to Sandakan
Today you will fly via Kota Kinabalu to Sandakan where you will be staying for 1 night at the Sepilok Nature Resort. Hidden amongst tropical plants and towering trees, Sepilok Nature Resort is the perfect spot to start your Borneo jungle adventure. This afternoon, head to the Rainforest Discovery Centre visiting the canopy towers connected by walkways to give you a bird’s-eye view of the rooftops of the trees. We also recommend a night walk to spot some of the nocturnal wildlife. Want to add-in a stop at the Mulu Caves – ask us to tailor this holiday to you.
Day 7: Sandakan to Sukau
This morning you will visit the world’s largest orangutan rehabilitation centre at Sepilok as well as the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. You will then cruise to Sabah’s mighty Kinabatangan River. This 2.5-hour boat ride offers a great opportunity to spot some of the incredible wildlife of the Kinabatangan River area including the endangered five species and a huge variety of birdlife. You will spend 2 nights at National Geographic Lodge Sukau Rainforest Lodge. In an idyllic setting on the banks of the river, Sukau Rainforest Lodge is the perfect base for wildlife spotting. This evening you will head on a guided nocturnal wildlife tour.
Day 8: Sukau
Wake up early for an unmissable morning cruise on the Kinabatangan River. Watch the jungle slowly waking up in the mist and enjoy the wildlife search as well the tour of the Kelenanap oxbow lake. Return to a delicious breakfast before taking a guided walk along the Hornbill Boardwalk. In the late afternoon, you’ll head out on a river cruise to track more wildlife including monkeys and orang utans.
Day 9: Sukau to Danum
Rising early, you will start your journey deeper into Borneo’s jungle, to Danum Valley with a stop at Gomantong Caves. This area is also home to around two million bats. You will be staying for 2 nights at Borneo Rainforest Lodge – on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest, the lodge is home to the full range of Sabah’s lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans. Enjoy an afternoon walk along the trails and up in the canopy walk, and an exhilarating night spotlighting tour in an open-top 4WD vehicle.
Day 10: Danum
Taking a packed breakfast, you will walk to a 200-year-old Kadazandusun Burial Site along the 2.6km View Point Trail. You’ll stop at the waterfalls to enjoy a refreshing dip in the pools below on the way back to your lodge for your delicious lunch. Explore the series of tracks leading around the Canopy Walk, or any of the optional activities available at the lodge. After dinner, venture into the jungle on foot with a local guide to spot a stunning array of wildlife.
Day 11: Danum to Kota Kinabalu
After a leisurely morning you will be transferred to Lahad Datu airport for your onward flight to Kota Kinabalu. Upon arrival you will be transferred to Shangri-La Rasa Ria where you will spend 4 nights. Situated between four hundred acres of lush tropical rainforest and the clear blue waters of the South China Sea, the Shangri-La Rasa Ria will offer a wonderfully relaxed end to your Borneo Holiday.
Days 12–14: Beach
Three full days to enjoy this beautiful beach and surrounding area. Why not jump on a boat and head to one of the close by islands for a day trip, hire a bike or visit Mari Mari cultural Village. Whether it’s relaxation or activities, Kota Kinabalu has it all and will be a great end to your fantastic holiday.
Day 15: Borneo to UK
Today you’ll transfer to the airport for your return flights to the UK.
Day 16: Home
