DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: London to Antananarivo
Fly this morning from the UK to Antananarivo (via Paris). On arrival into the Madagascar capital this evening you will be met and transferred to Relais des Plateaux to spend 1 night, a very comfortable small hotel and one of the most convenient for the airport.

Day 2: Antananarivo to Ifotaka Forest
Returning early to the airport this morning you will fly by charter plane to the southeast of the island, heading to the Ifotaka Community Forest to spend 4 nights at Mandrare River Camp. This owner run luxury tented camp offers a unique and exclusive safari experience with amazing wildlife and cultural experiences, excellent guides and a beautiful remote location on the banks of the Mandrare River. Sitting round the campfire at night will definitely be one of those “Sundowner Moments”. Remember, this is just a starting point idea to give you a flavour of what we can do. Days 3 – 5: Ifotaka Forest
Three full days to explore this fascinating region. Enjoy guided walks and 4×4 drives at day and night as you explore the gallery and spiny forests in search of Verreaux’s Sifaka, ring-tailed sportive lemurs and mouse lemurs. A huge highlight is also taking guided walks to the sacred forests and tombs of the Antadroy Tribe to witness the bizarre and fascinating traditions of these ancient people. Day 6: Ifotaka Forest to Manafiafy
This morning you will be collected from camp and transferred 6hrs east to the coast, where you will continue your exclusive adventure with 4 nights at Manafiafy Beach and Rainforest Lodge. Also owned and run by the Mandrare team this secluded beach retreat is definitely well off the tourist radar and offers the perfect mix of R&R and wildlife & beach activities – we particularly love the romantic island getaway, spending a night in a tree tent!

Day 7 to 9: Manafiafy
Three full days to enjoy this little slice of paradise. With rainforest and ocean the activities at Manafiafy include day & night guided walks in the rainforest, snorkelling, canoeing, mangrove motorboat excursions, village & market excursions, beach picnics and whale watching (June to September). Days 10: Manafiafy to London
After a final swim in the ocean you will transfer back to the Manafiafy airstrip for your charter flight back to Antananarivo. Day 11: London

Flatdogs: Game sightings were very good, too, although we had just one brief lion sighting in 3 full days (4 nights). We got very good compensation in the form of several leopard sightings (6 leopards on the best night drive!), as well as other animals. He managed his trackers to best advantage and discreetly. Great to be able to view wildlife on foot, on boat and canoe. Staff and locals determined that we saw as much as possible. Endlessly patient and willing to tell us about their lives and country.
