DETAILED ITINERARY

Day 1: UK to San Jose
Fly from the UK to San Jose. On arrival into San Jose you will be transferred to the Hotel Presidente to spend 1 night in the city. This characterful hotel is located at the heart of San Jose just walking distance from the iconic landmarks, bars and restaurant. Enjoy your evening soaking up the atmosphere and exploring this exciting city.

Day 2: San Jose to Tortuguero National Park
Leaving San Jose behind, you will travel by road & boat to Tortuguero National Park where you will stay 2 nights at Mawamba Lodge. This tropical lodge is perfectly nestled on a sand strip between Tortuguero Canals and Caribbean Ocean offering cosy rustic accommodation that blends perfectly with the surroundings of the jungle. Later today you’ll enjoy a guided group tour to the charming village of Tortuguero where you’ll learn all about the local life, art and culture.

Day 3: Tortuguero National Park
Today you’ll head out on a Tortuguero canal boat tour. Venture with your guide inside the canals and absorb the incredible fauna and flora with more than 350 bird species, monkeys, caimans and crocodiles, sloths, toucans and more. You will also join a guided walk of Mawamba park learning about the sustainable projects in this area including a visit to butterfly and frog gardens.Want to take the luxury up a step? Day 4: Tortuguero to Arenal Volcano
This morning you’ll be transferred by boat and car to Arenal Volcano region where you will spend 3 nights at Brisas Arenal. This owner-run hotel is set on the edge of Parque Nacional Volcan Arenal in 3 hectares of primary and secondary rainforest. With fantastic views of the volcano from each of the 13 rooms, this is a perfect spot to enjoy Arenal.

Days 5: Arenal Volcano
This morning you will join a half day tour of the Arenal Volcano and the Hot Springs. Enjoy the extraordinary view of Arenal during your gentle hike through the forest and the old lava flows, followed by a visit to the volcanic thermal mineral pools. Day 6: Arenal Volcano
Today you set off for a half day Natural History and Hanging Bridges walk. Explore this incredible bio-diverse area with a naturalist guide who will show you the fascinating and colourful tropical rainforest and waterfalls. The views of the volcano from the hanging bridges over the forest make for one unforgettable experience. You will then have a free afternoon and evening to do with as you wish. Talk to us if you would like to arrange another tour or if you would prefer to go white-water rafting or zip-lining instead of the Hanging Bridges.

Day 7: Arenal to Monteverde
This morning you will be collected for your shared transfer and lake crossing to Monteverde where you will spend 2 nights at Los Pinos. Owner-run Los Pinos is set amongst its own reserve with cabins perfectly spaced to allow you privacy. Los Pinos have been working hard to conserve and reforest their reserve which in turn boosts wildlife. With five trails on site, its own lookout tower and restaurants in walking distance, this is an idyllic spot to soak up Monteverde.

Day 8: Monteverde Cloud Forest
You will start your day today with a half day tour of the Moteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. Your guide will take you on a gentle hike along well marked trails through the forest past waterfalls and rivers.  In this incredible bio-diverse forest, you will find hundreds of species of mammals, birds, replies, plants and more. If you’re lucky you might spot a “Quetzal” – one of the most beautiful birds in the world – have your camera ready!! You will have your afternoon at leisure – or organise a night walk tour or coffee & chocolate tour – ask us  to tailor this holiday to you.

Day 9: Monteverde to Manuel Antonio
This morning you’ll wave goodbye to the lush cloud forest and join your shared transfers to your final stop, Manuel Antonio where you will be spending 3 nights at Playa Espadilla, located minutes’ walk away from the ocean and tropical forest of Manuel Antonio NP. This cosy rustic beach property offers a relaxed atmosphere, comfort and a chance to sample some fantastic local cuisine. Enjoy the rest of your afternoon and evening with a walk along the beach or choose from 2 main nature trails that are within this property. Make sure you bring your binoculars for a chance of spotting some great birdlife! Days 10&11: Manuel Antonio
Two full days at leisure to fully relax and enjoy this wonderful location. Or if you want to get active, you can explore the national park with a knowledgeable guide, head over for a kayak excursion to local mangroves, hire a snorkel and spend hours of watching the varied marine life or we can arrange a whale watching tour for those travelling during the season (Dec–Apr). Days 12: San Jose to UK
Today you will be met and transferred to San Jose Airport to fly overnight back to the UK.
