A mere 30 minutes from Malindi, Che Shale has a secluded location nestled in lush vegetation on a sweeping 5km beach. The atmosphere is very much barefoot luxury with a primary focus on relaxation and fully enjoying your natural surroundings, so if you want to properly switch off and escape then this is the place for you.

With not a door or window in sight, Che Shale’s rustic beach style is very unique and the bandas and restaurant are built with renewable local materials such as casaruina trees, palm trees, doum palms and coconut fibre. Chic interiors then come from acclaimed Milan furniture and interior designer Marzia Chicherretti whose style has been described as tropical contemporary. The result is unique furniture carved from mango & cedar wood, large lamps made from palm fibre, open air showers and cosy daybeds kitted out with oversized cushions.

For those who want it, Che Shale offers the ultimate playground for the active traveller. With top conditions, professional instructors and uncrowded warm water, the kite-surfing school at Che Shale caters to all levels, starting with a 3 day “beginners to board” course and children from 12 years can get stuck in and show mum and dad how it’s done! Other activities at Che Shale include kite buggy, SUP boarding, surfing, snorkeling & diving and traditional dhow cruises aboard their own dhow, Sawa Sawa.

The food has to get the final mention. With an abundance of fresh tropical fruits, locally grown vegetables and seafood & shellfish that are brought daily by the local fishermen, the food at the Che Shale restaurant is also a highlight, offering fresh, simple cuisine with a delicious blend of Swahili and Mediterranean flavours.
