Day 1: UK to Kuching
Fly overnight from the UK to Kuching
Day 2: Kuching
On arrival into Kuching airport, you will be met and transferred to the Ranee Boutique Hotel where you will be staying for 2 nights with breakfast included. Enjoy a guided walking tour of the charming Kuching Old Quarter, learn the colourful history of the many ethnic groups. Cross the Rejang River by traditional sampan and wander the lanes of the lively Malay Kampung, sampling local snacks before returning to your hotel.
Day 3: Bako National Park
Today, head to Bako National Park with your guide for a full day exploring the diverse walking trails within this unique biome. Day 4: Kuching to Mulu
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Kuching airport for your flight to Mulu. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to Mulu National Park HQ to stay for 2 nights with breakfast and dinner included. Meet your guide in the afternoon for some exciting cave walks and witness the ‘bat exodus’ at dusk. Experience night trekking through the jungle, from luminescent fungi to blinking fireflies which are attracted to the light of the torches.
Day 5: Mulu
Another day exploring the magnificent caves of Mulu, this time head up the Melanau River to the limestone caves which form part of the largest connected cave system in the world. Back at the resort, traverse the canopy walk for a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area before dinner.
Day 6: Mulu to Kota Kinabalu
This morning it’s back to the airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu where you will be met and transferred to Grandis Hotel & Resorts where you will stay for 1 night with breakfast included. Enjoy the sights of Kota Kinabalu. We recommend heading out to the night market for a wide range of South East Asian food, you will be forgiven for indulging more than expected with so many delicious varieties of fresh food!
Day 7: Kinabalu Park
A full day excursion awaits you to Mt Kinabalu – towering 4,095.2 metres above lush tropical jungles. Enjoy hiking one of the trails and keep a look out for the many species of plants that grow here. You will have lunch in a local restaurant before your visit the Botanical Gardens of Kinabalu Park. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the Sutera Sanctuary Lodge where you will stay for 1 night with dinner and breakfast included.
Day 8: Kinabalu to Sandakan
This morning you will visit Poring Hot Springs and the Kipungit waterfall or trek on a nature trail about 500m above sea level that leads to a unique canopy walk for an exhilarating experience of walking 41 metres above the forest floor. You will then be transferred approx. 4 hours to Sandakan (with a lunch stop en-route) to visit the Labuk Bay Sanctuary in time for the late afternoon feeding session of the Proboscis monkeys. Then head to at the Sepilok Nature Resort where you will stay for 1 night with breakfast included.
Day 9: Sandakan to Kinabatangan
Today you will visit the Bornean Sun Bear Conservation Centre, followed by a visit to the world’s largest Orang Utan rehabilitation centre at Sepilok to witness them being fed by the rangers, keep your cameras ready! In the afternoon, a 1.5-hour boat cruise takes you to Abai where you will be staying at the Kinabatangan Wetlands Resort for 2 nights on a full board basis. Another guided boat cruise after lunch in search of wildlife and in the evening, take a stroll along the boardwalks on the lookout for nocturnal animals and interesting insects.
Day 10: Kinabatangan
Enjoy a morning cruise up the Kinabatangan River followed by a jungle walk and experience the wilderness of Borneo before returning to the lodge for breakfast. You will have some free time at leisure to explore the surrounding areas or nearby village before an afternoon boat cruise along the river to see the many species of flora and fauna of the rainforest.
Day 11: Kinabatangan
Rising early, travel to Danum Valley (approx. 5 hours) passing through the thick virgin rainforest area along the way. You will be staying on a full board basis with guided activities included for 2 nights at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge. On the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest, the lodge is home to the full range of Sabah’s lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans. Enjoy a late afternoon walk along the trails and the canopy walk, high up in the 130-million-year-old rainforest and an exhilarating night spotlighting tour in an open-top 4WD vehicle.
Day 12: Danum Valley
Taking a packed breakfast, trek to a 200-year-old Kadazandusun Burial Site along the 2.6km View Point Trail, stopping at the waterfalls to enjoy a refreshing dip in the Jacuzzi Pool on the way back to the resort for lunch. Explore the series of tracks leading around the Canopy Walk, or any of the optional activities available, such as private trekking, tubing on the Danum River and specialised guided tours. After dinner, venture into the jungle on foot with a local guide to spot a stunning array of wildlife.
Day 13: Danum Valley to the UK
After breakfast, you will be transferred to Lahad Datu airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu and your onward flight to London.
Day 14: Home
