Kilimatonge Camp is Authentic Tanzania’s semi-permanent Ruaha camp. The camp is exclusively yours. From this base you can take walking safaris or game drives. For the more adventurous, there is also the option to sleep out where the wildlife is most abundant, setting up camp in a different spot each night.

Ruaha is the largest National Park in the country, bigger even than the Serengeti (and yet still only about one third of the size of Selous Game Reserve). It offers an astonishing concentration of wildlife and breathtaking landscapes. Present in Ruaha area all five of the great predators (lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, wild dog), more antelope species than any other park and countless plains game. However what you will take away from Ruaha more than anything are memories of magnificent elephant encounters.

The Ruaha Kilimatonge Camp is at the foot of the Kilimatonge Hill. Overlooking a sandy river bed, leopard are often spotted on the rock opposite camp, and elephant are frequent visitors to dig for water. Located in an area of the park central to the major wildlife congregations, you lose no time in the morning to get to a fresh kill or see predators hunting. Each tent has wooden beds with thick mattresses, en-suite bathrooms with hot showers and flushing toilets, solar power charging points and, of course, amazing views over the lake right from your tent. There’s also a comfortable open air lounge, exclusively yours as there will be no other guests around – just you.

If you fancy immersing yourself in the African bush, the fly camping is more basic with smaller dome tents, yet still with a team of safari and camping experts, there to provide you with little luxuries such as a G&T around a campfire at the end of the day.

Whether you are at Kilimatonge Camp or fly camping, the cooks at Authentic Tanzania have nailed the art of bush cooking. Expect freshly baked bread every morning (cooked in a tin box covered with hot coals), full English breakfasts, hearty lunches and three course dinners, all made to your specific timing and taste.

Each of the guides at Authentic Tanzania have been rigorously trained by Sven to become expert bush warriors – they know their way around the parks intimately and take you to the best spots for observing wildlife. They can point out a leopard in the distance even at dusk, and will tell you the history of lion prides you encounter. These are expert guides who will infect you with their enthusiasm for the bush.
