South Africa is a year-round destination. Seasons are the opposite to those in the UK with the hottest months from November to March (summer), and the coolest June to September (winter).

The temperature does vary across the country. The Western Cape including Cape Town and the Garden Route has a mediterranean climate with most rainfall in winter and plenty of sunshine and hot weather in summer. To the East of South Africa, including the Kruger, there tends to be sunshine year round. The summer is hot with short sharp rains and temperatues averaging 24°C. Winters are sunny and dry with temperatues averaging 19°C. Kwa-Zulu Natal has a sub-tropical climate with plenty of sunshine year round and temperatures averaging 23°C.

Self drive holidays along the garden route and in Kwa-Zulu Natal can be done throughout the year. Southern-Right whales can be seen off the Cape coasts from mid June to October, and humpback whales from May to December. Game-viewing in the Kruger is best between May & September when waterholes are the main source of water for the animals.
