Namibia is one of the world’s true wildernesses. The Namib desert is the oldest in the world. Walk here as our ancestors did thousands of years ago. The show-stopping desert landscapes are endless and you could spend weeks exploring the dunes and the mysteriously placed rocks, taking in rock paintings or a petrified forest as well as black rhino and desert elephants if you’re lucky.
On the Atlantic coast, visit hoardes of barking seals, enjoy some of the best oysters in Walvis Bay or get active in Germanic Swakopmund. For the skeleton coast, you need to take to the skies to see the sheer enormity of this eerie coastline.
In the north, wildlife awaits in the form of Etosha, perfectly designed for self-drive Big Five safaris. This is one of Africa’s largest and most spectacular game reserves with a plethora of waterholes that allow you wait for the wildlife to come to you.
In the south, Fish River Canyon is the second largest canyon in the world with depths of up to 550m. You can hike beside the riverbed, kayak the Orange River or just watch the sunset over its layers of sandstone and lava.
The infrastructure is fantastic in Namibia so we recommend taking to the road, armed with our itineray, driving directions and a pre-programmed phone. There is a photo opportunity every step of the way and a self-drive allows you freedom to choose your stopping points. Equally, safaris by air are an excellent, if expensive, option in Namibia. Flying Safaris allow the huge distances to be covered in good time and offer a compelling perspective on the striking desert landscapes. Whilst Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland, the Skeleton Coast, Etosha and Fish River Canyon are the most popular destinations – there are almost limitless opportunities to enjoy the wild beauty of this empty land.
Great trip! Highlight was the seal kayaking followed by the 4×4 dune driving from Walvis Bay to Sandwich Harbour. Awesome recommendation!
Namibia was exceptional and up there with the best places we have ever been in the world. Highlights were Etosha National Park, Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, Kalahari Red Dunes and the drive from Fish River Lodge to Luderitz.
We had a brilliant time in Namibia. We saw loads of animals including a leopard in Damaraland which I think was quite unusual, and an aardvark at okonjima, something I’ve never seen before on quite a few safaris! We also saw some of the cheetah chasing a day old giraffe which was exciting! We loved kayaking with seals in Walvis bay as well, the seals were hilarious. Thank you for your help, all of the tours were arranged perfectly and the hire car was great.
We had a great time. The Etosha waterholes provided many hours of entertainment at both camps. All in all, one of the best holidays and most exciting.
