The equator runs through Indonesia giving the whole country an almost entirely tropical climate. Coastal areas average 28°C, inland areas average 26°C, and higher mountain regions average 23°C throughout the year. Humidity remains relatively high, ranging between 70 and 90 percent.

Indonesia’s seasons can be defined by two seasons – wet and dry. The dry season lines up with the UK’s summer running from May to September where you can expect beautiful clear skies, and warm temperatures. This makes the dry season the best time to visit Indonesia, particularly for beach-goers and those looking to do some hiking or get off the beaten track. The wet season typically falls between October and April where rain comes in the form of short tropical downpours allowing you to still fully enjoy your wonderful holiday around the showers. Temperatures remain relatively constant throughout the year regardless of season.

Java’s best weather spans from May to September and temperatures are high, and the sky is clear and sunny. This is an ideal time to visit if you’re planning climbing Mount Bromo or Ijen, in the east of Java. Java’s rainy season is quite typical of Indonesia running from November to March, although Eastern Java tends to experience less rainfall than the west.

Bali’s weather is similar to Java, with April to September having the best weather. July and August are the most popular times to visit and visitor numbers are at their highest. Temperatures are consistent throughout the year ranging from 26-29°C with inland, higher altitude regions being slightly cooler. The wet season runs from October to March where you can expect short, heavy bursts of rain rather than hours-long downpours.

Nusa Tengarra experience a similar climate to Bali with their dry season typically running from April to September. This makes these months the perfect time to visit if you are interested in scuba diving, or planning on climbing Mt Rinjani – Indonesia’s second highest volcano. The months of November, December and January experience the highest precipitation in the wet season from October to March.

All aspects of this trip were amazing. The accommodation – from 5* luxury to simple lodges in stunning idyllic settings. The guides – superb, super knowledgeable. The activities were different and insightful – talking with the villagers, cycling through the rice paddies, kayaking, the vespa tour. And the holiday went without a hitch – many thanks!
