Both states offer an opportunity to see orang utans. The dramatic peak of Southeast Asia’s highest mountain, Mount Kinabalu, is in Sabah as well as the historic fishing village of Sandakan, the wildlife paradise of the Danum Valley Conservation Area for an array of jungle wildlife including orang utans and the peaceful jungle backwaters of Kinabatangan River where you can float and spot macaques, monitor lizards, elephants and the proboscis monkey from your boat.
