Day 1: UK to Sandakan
Fly from London to Sandakan, via Kuala Lumpur. Want to start with a few nights in Kuala Lumpur? We can tailor this holiday idea to you.
Day 2: Sandakan to Sepilok
On arrival into Sandakan, you will be transferred to Sepilok to stay for 2 nights at MY Nature Resort. Set on the edge of the tropical rainforest, MY Nature’s traditional chalets each have a large terrace overlooking the jungle. There is a good sized pool as well as a 300 metre walkway, where you are free to wander and discover the sights of the jungle. Tonight you will have the option to join a night walk to spot some of the nocturnal wildlife.
Day 3: Sepilok
Today is yours to spend at leisure in this fantastic destination. Follow one of the resorts boardwalks through the jungle, head to the Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary located at the centre of a mangrove forest with around 300 wild monkeys, or take the short walk to the Rainforest Discovery Centre visiting the canopy towers connected by walkways that give you a bird’s-eye view of the rooftops of the trees.
Day 4: Sepilok to Kinabatangan
This morning you will visit the world’s largest orangutan rehabilitation centre at Sepilok as well as the Sun Bear Conservation Centre. You will then cruise along Sabah’s mighty Kinabatangan River to Abai Jungle Lodge where you will be staying for 1 night with all meals included. Abai Jungle Lodge provides a rustic, rural setting, deep within the interior of Sabah with an abundance of wildlife to be found right on your doorstep. In the afternoon you will enjoy a guided river safari in search of pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, orangutans and more! And in the evening you’ll head out for a jungle at night guided tour for more wildlife tracking.
Want to head deeper into the jungle? Call 01273 923100 to tailor this holiday to you.
Days 5 & 6: Kinabatangan
Wake up early for an unmissable morning cruise to Pitas Lake. Watch the jungle slowly waking up in the mist and enjoy the wildlife search. After breakfast, learn about some projects within the local community, enjoy lunch at Abai Village and head out on a cruise to Sukau Village in search of primates, birds and other wildlife. Later today you will head further into the jungle to stay at Kinabatangan Riverside Lodge for 2 nights with all meals included. This is a wonderful, laid back base from which to explore the Kinabatangan River and the surrounding nature trails. You will spend the next two days enjoying river safari cruises to track wildlife in the mornings and afternoons.
Day 7: Kinabatangan to Gaya Island
Today you will be transferred to Sandakan Airport to check-in for your flight to Kota Kinabalu. On arrival, you will be met and transferred to the jetty for your boat to the gorgeous Gaya Island. You will be spending 5 nights at Gaya Island Resort with breakfast included. Set within a marine park with a golden beach and backed by lush rainforest, Gaya Island Resort is the perfect luxurious beach retreat to kick-back after your tour of Borneo. Along with a chance to relax on the beautiful beaches, you will also have the opportunity to join complimentary guided nature walks within the Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park.
Days 8-11: Gaya Island
Four full days to unwind on this beautiful beach, relax by the pool, and enjoy the surrounding area. If you are feeling active, then why not head out on a rainforest walk, guided snorkelling excursion, mangrove kayak tour, and more! With a wealth of coral reefs for diving, indigenous flora and fauna for guided nature walks, plenty of water sports, and an award-winning spa, there is plenty to do to keep you entertained!
